As we’re getting to know the wonderful people at Joslin’s Jewelry, this week the spotlight falls on Deb O’Connor!

  1. What’s your position/role at Joslin’s?

While Deb does not have an official title at Joslin’s, Gary Joslin refers to her as one of “Joslin’s Girls.”

“I think of myself as part of the ‘front line’ at Joslin’s – a friendly face customers see when they come in… We all wear many hats here, but my main responsibility is making sure our customers have an enjoyable experience from the time they walk through the door until they leave.

  1. When and why you joined?

“I joined the Joslin’s team in April 2015. After retuning from a 35 year career, I wanted to do something really different! My husband and I were driving by Joslin’s one morning, I saw the “help wanted” sign and told him I thought Joslin’s would be a happy place to work. So the next day I went in and filled out an application! And the rest is history!”

  1. What’s your favorite part about your job?

“It’s very rewarding to me when customers bring in jewelry they haven’t been able to wear in years, or they inherited jewelry they want to update and put a modern spin on. They trust us with their keepsakes so when we return the jewelry, their reactions are priceless!”

  1. What is your favorite or most memorable piece of jewelry you’ve sold?

“My job doesn’t include designing jewelry; however, I do have a favorite piece of jewelry a customer brought in. Her aunt sent her a necklace she had bought at Tiffany’s in New York City. It was a necklace with dozens of small peridots (August’s birthstone) encased in small yellow gold spheres all the way around it. Even the clasp had a peridot on it! It was so unique – I’ve never seen anything like it!”

  1. Any tidbits about yourself outside of work – kids, hobbies, or fun facts?

“Most people don’t know I’m a published author (from early in my career). I’m an avid baker and an antique enthusiast. I have a background in art, and through the years I’ve experienced working with many local and national visual and performing artists, dignitaries as well as politicians. That work prepared me for the fast-paced, diversified days I spend at Joslin’s!”
