Get to Know the Gems of Joslin’s!
For our next employee feature, we’re focusing on one of our skilled Jewelers, Wade! A Jeweler for almost 30 years and a member of the Joslin’s team for nearly two years now, this Missouri State Champion in Jewelry Making has every Joslin’s customer leaving with a smile on their face. Read more below.
- What’s your position/role at Joslin’s? I’m a Bench Jeweler which means I size rings, set stones, make wax molds to be cast into gold and, my personal favorite, metal fabrication.
- When and why did you join the Joslin’s team? I started working at Joslin’s in February of 2018. I’ve always loved “Mom & Pop” shops, so this has been the perfect fit. I also felt that I was at a point where I wanted to work closer to home and spend more time with my family.
- What’s your favorite part about your job? I have always enjoyed being a jeweler, I’ve been doing it for almost 30 years. But, I would have to say my favorite type of work is when I get the opportunity to do a custom job for a customer.
-
Favorite or most memorable piece of jewelry you’ve created? My favorite piece I’ve made at Joslin’s would have to be the first ring I made for a Joslin’s family member. It was fabricated which means I made it out of gold stock. It had a pink tourmaline for Elicia’s birthstone and a diamond for Cameron’s. Another piece I made years ago was for a man who owned a construction company. His ring was also gold and I made it with a bulldozer and backhoe. Inside of the backhoe were diamonds I had placed.
- Any tidbits about yourself outside of work – kids, hobbies, or fun facts? I have three sons, enjoy playing guitar and staining glass. I actually considered being a clown before becoming a Jeweler. I was also the 1988 Missouri State Champ in Jewelry Making.
