Meet Cocherell!
Cocherell (pronounced ‘coral’) is the newest jeweler to join the Joslin’s team. She grew up in the small Kansas town of Great Bend with her twin sister, Ash. It was there that Cocherell got her first job as a jeweler. She worked as an apprentice for two years at the local jewelry shop, where the owner was the father of a close friend. It was very hands-on training – Cocherell learned the basics before the owner sent her to a tech program in Tennessee to elevate her jewelry training even further.
Cocherell moved to Kansas City to be closer to her sister, who was already living in the area. After her move to KC, Cocherell worked as a hairstylist, but the jewelry business was her first passion. She decided to pursue her love for the jewelry business and called Joslin’s to see if they might be hiring. As luck would have it, she called at just the right time – Joslin’s was indeed hiring! The interview went well – Cocherell accepted an offer to begin working at Joslin’s in December 2023.
Cocherell spends her time at Joslin’s handling jewelry repairs and ring sizing while also enrolling in classes to learn and refine her techniques.
“I like working at Joslin’s because there is always something interesting to do. It feels like the days always just fly by,” she says. “I also really enjoy working with the other jewelers. They are always there to answer any questions I have – and I’m always learning new things.”
When Cocherell isn’t working at Joslin’s she enjoys drawing, creating cosplay costumes, going to anime conventions, and checking out live music in KC.
“I especially like going to concerts. Kansas City has a great music scene. I like to see big artists when they come to town, but I also enjoy seeing local bands. I have some friends who are in bands as well, so it’s cool to see them!”
As a jeweler, Cocherell sees a wide variety of the pieces that come through Joslin’s. One of her favorite styles at the moment is the pairing of black diamonds and rose gold.
“I love the way that they look together and it’s not something you see very often,” she noted.
