Madeline

Meet Madeline!

Wichita, Kansas native Madeline H. is one of four, with two older brothers and one younger sister. Her “family” also includes a 15-year-old cat and a seven-year-old Rottweiler-Lab mix and, as a graduate of the University of Kansas, she is an enthusiastic Jayhawks fan.

She earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree, with an emphasis on metalsmithing. On her very first day of metalsmithing class, she sat next to Elicia Joslin, Gary’s daughter, and the two have been friends ever since.

After school, Elicia went on to work as a jeweler at Joslin’s, and Madeline worked as a jeweler for a national jewelry store. In November 2023, Elicia told her that Joslin’s Jewelry was hiring, and Madeline jumped at the opportunity to join the team.

“Working at Joslin’s has been great,” she says. “Compared to other jewelry stores, Joslin’s is extremely customer-focused and we get to concentrate on making them happy. The work environment is relaxed and collaborative, with no pressure to meet quotas. At Joslin’s, it really is about quality over quantity, and that’s how I like to work.”

Madeline’s role at Joslin’s is primarily around repairs and custom work. A craftsman skilled at carrying out repairs of almost any kind, she particularly enjoys working on custom pieces for Joslin’s customers.

“My passion is creating something interesting, especially when I get to work with center stones. It’s always fun to work with those big gems!” Madeline exclaims. “I also have a studio at home, where I design and make jewelry in my free time, as well.”

Her personal favorite gems are moonstones, and the jewelry trend that appeals to her the most right now is the artful mixing and layering of gold chains. Combining different lengths, styles, and textures makes almost any outfit more interesting, elegant, and chic, she believes.

Whether visiting Joslin’s for a repair or to work with the staff to create a new piece that’s sure to become a family heirloom, Madeline can be counted on to be working hard behind-the-scenes on treasures old and new!
