Meet Gabby and Mason!

Gabby and Mason
Gabby and Mason met back in March of 2017. Gabby was the new waitress and Mason was the cute and mysterious bartender. “It was the classic story of a waitress and bartender falling in love,” according to Gabby! After a few months of hanging out with friends, Gabby finally asked Mason for some one-on-one time. By the fall of 2017, they made their official couple debut at the Kansas City Renaissance Festival, which has become one of their favorite yearly traditions.
Over the next couple of years, Mason and Gabby enjoyed dating, trying new restaurants, going to the movies, and exploring the city together. The two wound up moving in together shortly before the COVID-19 pandemic. “Lockdown was a good test for us to see just how compatible we really were by being trapped in the house together.” The two came out of the pandemic stronger than ever and began traveling, one of their favorite things to do together. Back home in Kansas City, the two enjoy watching movies together (Mason is a huge movie buff), taking care of their pets, playing games, and painting.
When it came to marriage, both knew that it was something they wanted, but it always seemed on the horizon. The two had discussed getting married, but never set a timeline in stone, preferring to wait until they knew the time was right.
The Proposal
In July of 2023, Mason’s stepmom mentioned to him that she had an heirloom ring that she wanted to gift to Gabby. Mason stopped her, “Actually, can I give that ring to Gabby?” He didn’t have to say why, his stepmom knew exactly what he meant and said “Of course!”
Mason knew the ring needed to be resized so he brought it to Joslin’s Jewelry on the recommendation of a close friend. Mason had to be a little sneaky so he left work early one day, turned off location sharing on his phone, and headed to Joslin’s. The staff was happy to size the ring and he was able to pick it up immediately. With the ring back and ready to go, Mason began to plan his proposal.

The two made dinner reservations one Friday, and since the weather was particularly nice, being early September, Mason suggested leaving a little early and walking around a park near the restaurant. The two arrived at Antioch Park and strolled around the lake. Mason wanted to pop the question in the park’s rose garden but he had to wait for another couple to move out of the way and then some kids on scooters. Gabby said, “I thought he seemed a little lost in thought, but I had no idea what was coming!”
Once the spot was clear, they made their way to the rose garden, Mason got down on one knee, and asked Gabby to marry him! Gabby was shocked and said “Yes!” of course. Some happy tears were cried, especially when Mason told her about the ring’s origin.
The Rings
Despite his secret trip to Joslin’s, the size wasn’t quite right so the couple returned the week after the proposal. Joslin’s re-sized it free of charge and cleaned it as well! “Even though we did not get the ring at Joslin’s, they were so helpful with sizing, checking all the prongs, and giving us advice on how to care for the ring.”

Mason’s grandmother’s original wedding ring.
After the engagement, Mason’s aunt and uncle gifted Mason’s grandmother’s wedding ring to the couple. Mason was very close to his grandmother and she had passed just a few years before. Mason’s aunt and uncle knew his grandmother would want him to have it. The ring was similar to a typical engagement ring – a single diamond in a solitaire setting on a unique, wide gold band. After much consideration on what to do with the ring, the couple returned to Joslin’s.

After consulting with the staff at Joslin’s, a plan for the wedding ring was set. Joslin’s removed the diamond and setting and resized the original band of the ring for Mason, making this part of his grandmother’s ring into his wedding band. The diamond was then set in a more modern solitaire setting for Gabby – making it a stunning yet simple wedding ring instead of the traditional gold band.
Gabby and Mason couldn’t be happier with everything Joslin’s did for them. They transformed their heirloom family ring into two pieces, one for each of them, that perfectly reflected their personalities and styles, allowing these treasured keepsakes to be worn and loved once again!
“It was hard at first to think of making any changes to the original ring, as it held such sentimental meaning to us. Being able to create two new rings from the original was the perfect choice for us and Joslin’s made that possible. They answered all our questions, made us feel comfortable with the process, and we couldn’t be happier with the result! We cannot recommend Joslin’s enough!”
